Rock transformation

Inspiration to my new rocks project came from my dressed up post. I started sketching the crocheted part and the shapes led to the triangle design. The colors were kept very simple, all but the bottom right rock are only one color. Hand drawn, manipulated in Adobe Illustrator.

Ensō WIP

Ensō is a Japanese word meaning circle and a concept strongly associated with Zen. It symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and the void. In Zen Buddhist painting, ensō symbolizes a moment when the mind is free to simply let the body/spirit create. • Ensō is my new crocheted blanket, circles in squares. Yarn: inner circle is Noro Taiyo (7g), the outer square is Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton in Azul (10g) • Hook: 5 mm.

Process (3rd step)

My next step is to calculate how much yarn I need. I ordered 1 skein of each color, CotLin yarn weighs 50 grams a skein. Each square weighs 12 grams. Each color (other than white) weighs approx. 2-3 grams. White weighs approx. 4-5 grams. ; Here is how much yarn I need for each color: Red (in 9 squares) = 27 grams • Blue (in 11 squares) = 33 grams • Orange (in 8 squares) = 24 grams • Yellow (in 8 squares) = 24 grams • Green (in 4 squares) = 12 grams • Dark brown (in 10 squares) = 30 grams • Mid brown (in 13 squares) = 39 grams • Light brown (in 15 squares) = 45 grams • White (in 20 squares) = 100 grams • I'm going to order 2 more skeins of the white just in-case I need a little more than 100 grams.

Process (2nd step)

Remember this post? I got the yarn, decided on the square design, chose the hook size and crocheted one square. After blocking, measuring and weighing I decided to work on a four by five squares grid. You can see the design on the first picture. Each square other than the colorful part will have two rows of white around it. You can see the colors I chose on the second picture, and the start of my Tiny happy blanket on the third one. I weave in the ends and connect the squares as I crochet each square. ; Yarn: Cotlin DK Yarn from KnitPics, Hook: E, 3.5 mm.

Process (1st step)

My plan is to crochet a granny square blanket. I want to use CotLin DK Yarn from KnitPicks and the first step is to choose the colors. I'm a visual person, I need to SEE how the colors look together. Remember that I don't know my gauge, or how many squares I'll need, or even if I'm going to crochet one or two rows with the same color. ; I grabbed the colored yarn photos from the KnitPicks site, and arranged them in a few squares. Each square represents a crochet row, other than the center that represents a granny square. ; The next step is to order one skein of each color, decide how I want it to look and how big I want it to be. Crochet one square, weigh the yarn, calculate how much I need, block it and make sure I like it. Order the yarn and crochet the blanket. ; Here are the colors I chose: 1. Swan • 2. Linen • 3. Cashew • 4. Moroccan Red • 5. Clementine • 6. Sprout • 7. Surf • 8. Sagebrush • 9. Crème Brulee.

WIP

New ideas I'm working on. Embroidered burlap with dark pink floss, and 2 tone crocheted clutches. The burlap will turn into a pouch with embroidery on both sides, and an interesting zipper pull. I'm waiting for the sew on magnets I ordered to finish the clutches. Two more color combos. Both will be in the store in July.

2nd Time Cotton

New yarn, 2nd time cotton by Knit One Crochet Two, in berry, brick, plum, linen and earth (from top to bottom). A blend of recycled cotton (75%) and acrylic (25%). I'm working on a new prototype for the store. Will reveal more details later. ; Remember this post? This is the design I chose to send to the contest. I had to eliminate the whites, Rav accounted white as a 4th color.

A Ravelry Celebration

Ravelry is celebrating it's 5 years anniversary. They are holding a contest to create a design for their project bag. The design theme is "A Ravelry Celebration". You can read more here. ; I got inspired by all the new and amazing people from all over the world I got to know through Ravelry, and share the simple passion for knitting, crocheting, and creating beautiful things. My idea was using knitting and crocheting symbols that are connected together, to create a beautiful design. The Ravelry community is so talented, supporting, and colorful, that it's hard to convey everything in one design. ; The bag is going to be silk printed in three colors. I posted the same design with different colors, not sure which one is my favorite.

Doily+

I joined the Doily Wildfiber crochet swap. I wanted to make something a little more than a doily, and ended up crocheting a small container. I took the pattern from a Japanese craft book called White, ivory an beige goods. I used a home made yarn stiffener to make the bowl more sturdy. Approx. size of the container is 6.5" diameter x 3.5" height. Yarn is KPM in apple green.
