Shabd

I went to Shabd dyeing workshop yesterday. I fell in love with tie-dye/shibori when I took my Textile Design program in Otis. I wanted to learn more and I started following Shabd work and fell in love with it. I tried to arrange for her to teach us a class at Otis but it didn't work out. I was waiting for her to come to LA for a couple of years now. Since then I got her wonderful book and I'm experiencing dyeing with different fabrics and methods. • A few weeks ago Shabd emailed me that she's going to teach a dyeing workshop in LA. I wanted to dye things that I usually don't, like these leggings. I love how they came out. I was so excited to meet her and ask all my questions, she's truly a great artist and a teacher. She shared so much information with us, it was a blast. Thank you Shabd for a great Saturday.

New Crop

Sunflowers

We're growing very happy and huge sunflowers, all from seeds. Thank you Eliot for all the beautiful plants in our garden.

Surprise

We had a surprise visit from our friend from Japan. As always I'm blown away by the attention to details in their gift wrapping, box design, colors, fonts, the whole feel of the product before you even taste it. Each small box comes with a tiny plastic spoon attached to the top. Very high expectations on the flavor of bean paste.

Cooking colors

I just came back from a wonderful long weekend in Portland and Washington. I attended a great class at WildCraft Studio school called Kitchen Sink Dyes. Chelsea Heffner, the owner and teacher of this class is very knowledgable and kind. We had a wonderful walk in the forest to harvest Lupine, an amazing fresh and yummy lunch and a great time learning all we could about dyeing fabric and yarn with everyday herbs, spices, flowers and veggies. Xiem Ceramic Art Fair

Beautiful ceramic bowls by my very talented friend Limor Johnson. I went to the Xiem Ceramic Art Fair in Pasadena today and my dear friend gifted me with these wonderful bowls. Thank you so much Limor, I love each and every one.

Plentiful

Mother nature is very generous and I would like to say thank you for all the goodness. We enjoy watching our vegetables, fruits and herbs growing. It's truly a wonderful feeling to see it all and appreciate the amazing flavor of the fresh crops.

20th anniversary

Uri and I got married 20 years ago, what a bliss. Moving to LA was one of the most difficult and challenging events in my life, I'm so happy and lucky to experience what I did because it made me a better person. • Thank you to my wonderful family and friends for everything.

Reinventing the bookmark

It saddens me that most of the book stores in LA closed down. When my daughter was very young we visited the book store regularly, reading books, looking at the letters and pictures, admiring what they have to offer. We used to read to her on every occasion we could, I wanted to share my love of reading with my daughter, and I succeeded, she's an avid reader too. I'm looking at this amazing bookmark project above and I'm happy that there are still people that appreciate holding a real book in their hands, flipping the pages and marking them with bookmarks.

Frida Kahlo

I got an amazing comment on my last Paisley post, I wanted to honor the beautiful artist Frida Kahlo. I'm deeply touched, thank you. ; Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter best know for her surrealist self-portraits, depicting her intense emotional and physical pain. She was three years old at the onset of the Mexican Revolution, a fact which colored her from the very beginning of her life, including accounts of how her mother would rush her and her three sisters into the house because of outbreaks of gunfire in the streets outside her house. Inspiring others

Remember this silk print I made back in April? I've found this post recently and I feel so blessed that I inspire other people to create. Kathy wrote "These proofs by Anat Rodan make me want to run to the nearest screen-printing studio and get my print on..." This is one of the main reasons I share my knitting designs and writing this blog. Creating is a big part of my life, not sure I can survive without it. It's truly creating anything, from cooking, drawing, knitting, jewelry making, sewing and so much more. It was always a big part of my existence and will always be. The second reason I do it is to share the goodness, I enjoy sharing it with you. An amazing thing about sharing is that you get to know people from all over the world and it's truly a precious gift. Thank you.
