WIP Quilt

I decided to skip the border and quilt the top and batting together and seam the back to the front so I won't have any border. I'm trying to give it a modern/vintage look. For some reason a few of the hand dyed blocks look like my childhood bedding. I feel that there is enough "vintage" in the fabric so the quilting will have a modern look. I'm going to machine quilt straight lines in a few of the blocks, some will go from side to side and some from top to bottom. The back and the stitching will be dark gray to bring all the colors together.

New quilt

I tested a few dye colors and color combos on cotton before I dyed these scarfs. I decided to make a quilt out of all the samples I made. These are the strips of fabric after I trimmed all the excess of my design. I hope to show you the new quilt soon.

Arashi and itajime shibori

The first image is of arashi shibori (pole wrapping) and the second is of itajime shibori (shape resist technique). Both were dyed with a mix of dark gray and black on raw silk.

New obsession

I wanted you to get a better look at the scarfs I made, I thought maybe it will explain my new obsession with dye and fabric. On the left you see the whole scarf and on the right a close up of the design. I'm very happy with the results but testing is not over yet. • I also wanted to share my new leather tags I got from coco heaven on etsy, just need to sew them on the scarfs and I'm done with these extra special gifs.

Testing

Tie-dye testing from my last class with fiber procion dyes and cotton, better results than last week. I think I know what I like and how to make it happen. It will take a few more steps before I make up my mind completely, but I'm getting there.

I LOVE shibori

I love the way you dye it, the unpredictable shapes, it's always a surprise when you unravel it, and the colors. I love everything about it. • These beautiful pillows are from Pfeifer Studio.

New book: Tie-Dye: Dye It, Wear It, Share It

Just got Shabd Simon-Alexander's book Tie-dye: dye it, wear it, share it. It has a lot of information about this ancient art of dying. I enjoy reading it and can't wait to start my own projects. I contacted Shabd about a dying workshop in LA, I hope to see her here soon. I'll keep you posted.
