Circles

My new screen, circles. I made it by myself using a silk screen from Blick, water resistant diazo emulsion called Kiwocol, and the Los Angeles sun. I chose a bright orange ink printed on 100% cotton fabric.

Tomato soup ; Excess 3

Roasted tomato soup, perfect for hot and cold days. I got inspired from a Smoked tomato soup recipe from "Home Made" cooking book. Here is what I did: halve 5 ripe fresh tomatoes and place on a baking sheet with olive oil and salt. Roast in the oven for 45 minutes at 375 degrees. While the tomatoes are roasting, place 28 oz can of organic whole tomatoes in a large pan, add 1 tsp paprika and a pinch of dried hot peppers, 2 peeled garlic cloves, and 2 cups of chicken broth. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 30 minutes. Add the broiled tomatoes to the soup, and puree until smooth. Add salt and pepper as needed. Enjoy! ; KGS just finished knitting her 3rd Excess hat, it looks amazing on her.

1st trial

I wanted to share my 1st trial with silk printing. New screens, new inks, new table. It's not the first time I'm printing, but the screens are much bigger, and the length of the design is much taller. It didn't work very well, I was starting to loose ink at 3/4 on the way down. Next time I'll try to print them horizontally and see how they work. I learned that I need to use spray adhesive, if I want the fabric to stick to the table when I move the screen. I need to have a few trials before I print the "real" fabric, little tricks with alignment of the screen, etc. Over all it was a good beginning, the only disappointment I had was that I won't have the "real" fabric printed at the end of the day.

Fresh wraps

Single wrap weaved bracelets with Ghana brass beads and different colored waxed cotton thread and leather cord. Getting ready for spring. They will be in the store soon.

Weaving

I went to a weaving class at my local yarn store. There is so much to learn, but it seems doable with the rigid heddle looms. They range from $145.00 to $270.00.
