Julia Sysmäläinen is a designer and a philologist with
Finnish-Russian cultural background. She works in corporate design, visual
identity and type. Her typeface FF Mister K, inspired by the manuscripts of
Franz Kafka, won several awards. On the last picture you can see rustedjewelry formed from glyphs and icons of the FF Mister K family. • My typefaces, FF Mister K is a complete type family based on
Franz Kafka’s manuscripts — sometimes closer to the original, sometimes a few
steps away. I proceeded in a similar way when developing Emily in White and my most recent typeface for the Lebedev Studios, ALS
FinlandiaScript. For the former, the starting point was a series of poems by Emily Dickinson, written on slips on paper sewn together (she called them “fascicles”). For the latter,
letters written by the composer Jean Sibelius.
Even my ALS SyysScript (Finnish for “Autumn Script”) had a model — a Soviet
postcard that my Aunt Katri sent me long ago to invite me to go mushrooming. –MyFonts

The Brewery Art Walk
The creation of the Brewery Arts Complex began in 1982 at
the site of the Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery. With the passing of the
Artist-In-Residence code, artists could rent live/work space in industrially
zoned buildings. The Brewery ArtWalk is a twice annual open studio weekend at
the worlds largest art complex. More here.

Inspiring others
Remember this silk print I made back in April? I've found this post recently and I feel so blessed that I inspire other people to create. Kathy wrote "These proofs by Anat Rodan make me want to run to the
nearest screen-printing studio and get my print on..." This is one of the main reasons I share my knitting designs and writing this blog. Creating is a big part of my life, not sure I can survive without it. It's truly creating anything, from cooking, drawing, knitting, jewelry making, sewing and so much more. It was always a big part of my existence and will always be. The second reason I do it is to share the goodness, I enjoy sharing it with you. An amazing thing about sharing is that you get to know people from all over the world and it's truly a precious gift. Thank you.
